I am a scientist at University of California Berkeley, in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management. My research centers on improving risk assessment and management of agriculturally important insect pests and vector-borne plant pathogens. I seek to describe the ecological causes of pest and disease risks, including biotic interactions and climatic processes, as well as grower responses to new pest and disease problems. In my research, I combine experimental and observational ecological data with mathematical models and agricultural sociology work to provide more powerful and agriculturally relevant inferences about the ecological and social consequences of pests and diseases.
